I have stayed in Canmore MANY times before, and on my last visit I decided to splurge and stay at The Malcolm Hotel. This hotel has a picturesque pool overlooking the famous three sisters mountain peaks. But, is the Malcolm Hotel worth the price? Would I stay there again? The short answer is, yes. The long answer is, well, keep reading..
1. Location of The Malcolm Hotel:
The Malcolm Hotel is in the perfect location. It is far enough away from the main strip that you feel surrounded by nature and not tourists, but it is only about a 10-15 minute walk to all the shops and restaurants. Check out my post here for all shops and restaurants (and other things to do) in Canmore!
The hotel also situated on a creek, so you are able to walk along the creek paths and check out different homes, nice scenery, and if you’re lucky see a wild animal (or two)!
Both sides of the hotel face mountains, so you are likely to have a “mountain view” from your hotel window (although one side does have a road between you and the view).
With underground parking, you don’t have to worry about clearing off your car during the winter months (who am I kidding, it can be May and still show signs of snow). Just FYI, the underground parking can fill up on busy nights.
2. Amenities at The Malcolm Hotel:
The pool is absolutely AMAZING. The hotel has one “warm” larger pool and two smaller hot tubs. I was able to go in the “warm” pool in March and was totally fine. The hot tubs can get quite busy, especially on the weekend, but if you don’t go at peak hour you may be the only ones using it!
The hotel also has a games area with a pool table, a (small) gym that overlooks the mountains, access to fire pits, a little coffee shop on the main floor, and multiple options for event space should you wish to plan a wedding (or other event) at this hotel.
3. Service:
Each staff that I met during my stay at the Malcolm was so friendly and helpful. The staff brought us bathrobes and slippers, and even brought us up an umbrella when it started raining outside.
4. Room Design:
The room had a classic mountain lodge vibe. However, this room had one of the most COMFORTABLE beds I have ever slept on. Maybe it was all the hiking I did over the two night stay, but I slept like a baby. Both nights. The room also had Nespresso – always a plus!
Cons of staying at The Malcolm Hotel:
The one con of staying at The Malcolm Hotel was that our room window overlooked the pool, but was a little lower than the pool so we had a half pool/half underground view, and it was less than ideal. People at the pool could easily see into our room unless we kept the blinds closed. Looking back, I should have asked if any other rooms were available.
Overall, I would gladly stay at this hotel again. The location is great, and I think it is well worth the price. Plus – you can get all the insta-worthy shots you want with the amazing backdrop. If you are going to Canmore to relax and spend time at your hotel then I think this place is definitely worth the splurge. If you are going to spend most of your time outside in the mountains, then maybe not (although the hot tub felt GREAT after a long day of hiking).
